Allahu Akbar ! I can't raise my hands ...

Allahu Akbar ...
"It happened when I wanted to perform Zuhur prayer. My head was spinning and I had to lie down to rest on the Sejadah" Su told a specialist from UKM today... Eventhough her speech is still affected by the stroke attack , but we can understand what she was trying to explain.

What Is Stroke?

Stroke is a sudden impairment in brain function. One may suffer inability to speak or speak clearly, walk , or move a limb because has stopped flowing to an area of the brain. This is caused by the blockage or the rupture of a blood vessel.

Unlike ministrokes, which are also known as transient ischemic attacks (TIA), whose symptoms resolve on their own in less than 24 hours, strokes leave behind long-lasting neurological impairments. The severity of these impairments depends on how large the damage is to the brain, and on the part of the brain that is affected.

The Symptoms
Stroke symptoms usually come on suddently, and should always treated as a medical emergency. They include a sudden onset of any ofthe following:

(i)  Weakness of the face, arm, and/or leg on one side of body
(ii) Numbness in the face , arm and/or leg one side of body
(iii) Inability to understand spoken languange
(iv) Inability to speak
(v) Inbility to write
(vi) Vertigo and/or gait imbalance
(vii) Double vision

For Su's case , when I saw her on the Sejadah , she had (i) and (iv). Weakness of the face, arm and leg on right side of her body. She can't speak too.

Stress Management, Don't take it for granted

10 Jan 2010

Before the incident, Su did tell me few times she wanted to change her job. "It ’s stressful managing customer’s complaints and coordinating fault restorations". As one of the contact centre’s agents, I believe it was normal because she was doing this job for more than 4 years. That was my mistake. Even though I had experience in managing customers before, but I underestimate the stress that she had gone through. She started work as early as 8 am until 5.30 pm and continued to complete daily report for management. Shift work was applicable to her when a control centre was setup for emergency (e.g flood)

Again, my mistake was I did not take this matter seriously. I though she can manage her stress. Stress- tolerant level is different individually. I can release my stress through sports but for her probably she kept thinking about the dockets /complaints and how to resolve it even after working hours.

In addition to that, it was different situation when she had been asked to handle different service /product, which was more challenging than before.

Anyway,  from the clinical point of view, the specialists felt "stress" was not the root cause. They had conducted several diagnoses and extensive medical tests to find out why the inflow of blood into Su's left brain was disturbed. However, they can’t find the root cause until now. Based on their vast experience on Stroke, this is very unusual .

I will share later the diagnostic processes, modern and traditional treatments.

Treatment Technology

Medical Device

This equipment was used at Rehabilitation Center .  I was told, the device can stimulate my wife's nerves so that the affected brain will learn the signal generated from the device to the right hand and leg and then to the left brain. The device also can help to reduce pain. I had to learn from the therapist on electrode placements because it can be one of the most important parameters in achieving my objective .. speedy recovery.  I bought the equipment for less than RM 200.

Bio-Ion: Electrical Magnetic Mattress by Zhulian

This equipment was introduced to me by my friend's wife. She is using this equipment for her mother in-law for stroke treatment and her consumption too. I noticed it improved my wife menstrual cycle/ period. The cost is > RM2K ( inclusive 2 pillows)
